Boróka Biró is a Bucharest-based cinematographer and alumna of the National University of Theatre and Film “I.L. Caragiale” (UNATC), where she earned a master’s degree in cinematography. She participated in Berlinale Talents (2021) and Sarajevo Talents (2017), and has attended international workshops and masterclasses including the Natasha Braier Mentorship, ASC Masterclass, Imago Inspiration Masterclasses, and Camerimage Festival.

She began her career in the camera department, working as a focus puller and camera operator on acclaimed productions including Sieranevada (Cristi Puiu), The Yellow Tie (Serge Celebidachi), and Wednesday (Tim Burton, Netflix), while developing her own work as a cinematographer through short films.

Her feature debut, It Takes Two to Fence (dir. Andrei Gheorghe), earned her the Young Hope Award for Cinematography at the Gopo Gala. In 2024, she shot Bogdan Mureșanu’s The New Year That Never Came, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and won the Orizzonti Award for Best Film, the FIPRESCI Prize, and the Bisato d’Oro Award for Best Screenplay. Boróka received a Special Mention for Cinematography at Venice’s Authors Under 40 – Valentina Pedicini award, alongside further international recognition for the film.

She specializes in fiction, commercials, and documentaries. Her visual approach is rooted in story, emotion, and atmosphere, with each project shaped by its own visual language.
