Boróka Biró is a Bucharest based emerging cinematographer, alumna of The National Film and Television School “I.L. Caragiale” of Bucharest with MA degree, Berlinale Talents 2021 and Sarajevo Talents 2017. She attended many international filmmaking workshops (Nisi Masa Workshops, Slow Film Super8 Workshop, Filmtett) and international masterclasses like ASC Masterclass 2022, Imago Inspiration Masterclasses and Camerimage Festivals.
Boróka Biró received a special mention for cinematography as part of the Authors under 40 Award dedicated to the director Valentina Pedicini at the 81st Venice Film Festival, in 2024 for The New Year That Never Came by Bogdan Muresanu.
She started her career in the camera department during her studies, then shortly became a focus puller, then a camera operator and worked on movies like Sieranevada (Cristi Puiu), Touch Me Not (Adina Pintilie), Wednesday (Tim Burton, Netflix). She shot several short films as a cinematographer. Her debut feature film, “It Takes Two To Fence '', directed by Andrei Gheorghepremiered at Mons IFF and she was awarded with Young Hope Award at the Gopo Gala for its cinematography. Recently she finished shooting her second feature film, directed by Bogdan Muresanu, "The New Year That Never Came".
She is specialised in fiction films, commercials, and documentaries. Her camera work and lighting is focused on story, emotion and atmosphere, with great care for the narrative and the character. Every story needs a different approach and style in order to truly tune in with the meaning. She is passionate about film, analogue photography, traveling, performative and fine arts, yoga, psychology, light, atmosphere.
